The issue was reported very well but it could have had a ittle more information to it.

Sydney’s Big Chill
Sydney had its coldest afternoon in 5 years, so cold that it snowed on Sydney’s North Shore.
All of the residents had fun using their boogie boards as sleds. It wasn’t really snow, just tiny hailstones. Power usage was at an all time record high due to this cold weather.

Beijing Air Pollution
There is really bad air pollution in Beijing. The Olympics are due to start in one week, and everyone is worried that some events will have to be cancelled, especially long events like the marathon. People have been worried about the air pollution for a long time, and it has been on the news before, but it is worse now because of hot humid weather.
The news showed lots of pictures of the grey sky, and how you couldn’t see the main stadium from just 1km away. They interviewed a Chinese man who said he thought it would get better. The Chinese have stopped a lot of cars from coming into the city, and they closed a lot of factories and construction sites to try to make the air cleaner.

~New Edition To The Packer Family~
Billionaire James Packer and his wife Erica Baxter had welcomed the birth of their daughter, whom they have named Indigo. The birth took place at the Martyr Hospital in Sydney. The labour was short and the delivery was without complication.
The Packers have taken over three rooms in the hospital, where it is expected that one whole room would be taken up with flowers. Family and friends have started to visit, and David Gyngell, Channel Nine’s Chief Executive, commented that the baby ‘looked beautiful – just like her mother!’
Mum, Erica, has produced a healthy heiress to the Packer fortune, which is an estimated six point one billion dollars. Sources say that baby Indigo will attract many magazine articles like her parents, and will create a lot of media interest throughout her life.

Beijing worries about the smog that covers the huge city caused by pollution.
Athletes are allowed to walk away from the olympic games in Beijing. The smog is so thick that the famous Birds Nest stadium cannot be clearly viewed from more than two kilometres away.
The Chinese have taken half the cars off the road. They also shut down some heavy industry. Local weather forecasts some rain and wind. This will hopefully clear out the thick smog.

Qantas explosion out of control
A big gust of wind hit the jet causing to rip a 2-metre hole in the jets fuselage. I bet that would of made a big fuss!! the problem happened in mid air. The people on the flight QF30 were involved in the problem. The purpose of the report was to let everyone know what had happened.
It was reported on the pictures and the people on the plane flight and news reporters after everyone was off the plane safely. They also interveiwed the passengers as well. This is a fairly old issue but they are still talking it on the news. I think it would have been a very scary experience if I were on that plane flight I would be very frightened.

After reading the task again, I realise that I didn’t really answer the last 2 questions.
In relation to the report on the Tour de France, the reporting was very focussed on the Australians competing in the event particularly Cadel Evans. While they focussed on the disappointment of Cadel missing out on the Yellow Jersey they failed to point out his great achievement in coming second especially considering he finished 2nd last year and 4th and 8th the other years he has competed. The previous best for an Australian was Phil Anderson who finished 5th.

Sydney model Caroline Byrne was found dead in June 1995 at The Gap at Watson’s Bay.At first police treated the case as a suicide, however,Gordon Wood is currently for her murder.
The Crown Prosecutor Mark Tedeschi told the court the initial investigation was “inadiquate as no photographs were taken of her body and no search for signs of violence or a struggle took place”.
It is alleged she was murdered because she knew too much about the business and personal life of Gordon Wood’s boss Rene Rivkin,an important and wealthy businessman who has since died.
The trial continues.
