The Elizabeth Farm excursion
On Tuesday 24th June,4F and 4/5M went on an excursion and had to dress up as a convict. We went to Elizabeth Farm and then we went to where explorers and students worked. 4/5M went to Elizabeth Farm first and we did alot of jobs. Some of the jobs were how to bake scones, how to clean the dust out of rugs, how to set the table and tidy the bed. I liked cleaning the scones because you have to whack it hard with a stick. At the end we signed to get of there and spotting prints. We then took a little bit more pictures there.
We went to the Goverment house where the explorers and students worked. We went inside Goverment house but we couldn’t take photos, so we quickly took photos. We went in and saw a lot of stuff. My favourite room there is where the captains stay. We all meeted again and were all tired and experienced.
While we were on the bus we played a lolly game. We all had fun at the end of the day and i thought i could go back there again.

We made another stop at a small park in Bathurst where we ate lunch. Then back on the bus headed strait to an old gold town called Safala.

The next day we got up bright and early and went outside to play with the kangaroos, wallabies, pigs, sheep horses, donkeys, cows and emus.
Then it was breakfast after breakfast we went to the show where they showed us the animals up close and personal it was great.
After that we got to the Bathurst goldfieds my favourite part was when we panned for gold in the creek. We had to leave and head home. It was the longest four hours of my life. We got home at six o’clock.

DUBBO – A FAMILY HOLIDAY
Over the Easter Break, I visited Dubbo with my family. “We set out early on Good Friday and stopped for lunch at a “travellers rest area”where we enjoyed a picnic. We finally made it to our Motel. It was small, but cosy and Mum took lots of goodies for us.
After arriving in Dubbo we went to visit the Western Plains Zoo as well as Old Dubbo Gaol, Wellington Caves, Jedda Boomerangs and the Japanese Gardens.
The zoo was fantastic. I even got to drive one of the electric carts. It was so nice to see the animals in their (almost) natural environment, but they were happy.
We bought boomerangs and engraved them with our own art. We also learnt how to throw a boomerang.
When we visited the Gaol, we were given a fact finding sheet and had to find answers for lots of questions. It was really interesting and sometimes scary when we saw what the prisoners had to put up with.
There were lots of nice restaurants in Dubbo – my favourite was The
“SSS”Steak House.
Mum & Dad took me there so I could experience something different from Sydney. I really liked being in the country for a change!!!!

COUNTRY FAIR DAY
Country Fair Day was held on the 2nd of July when everyone in our class got to bring their own pet to school and show the class. After the parade we had a nice lunch and then sat down and watched the movie Charlotte’s Web.
We did all of this because we were recently studying Charlotte’s Web which was set on a farm, so we decided to celebrate the end of our studies.
I had a great time and so did my puppy Ella, she even one an award for the fluffiest pet.

Zone Cross-country Carnival
The Zone Cross-country Carnival was held on Tuesday 20th May 2008. I was lucky enough to make the team and it was great to go out there with quite a few of my friends.
The day was pretty sunny and not as windy as it can be sometimes. The students from our school did very well with quite a few kids coming in the top 6 and going through to the District Carnival including Phoebe who came first in my race. Nearly everyone from the school came in the top 60 and scored points for our school. This meant that our School came first in the schools competition! Well done everyone!
The day got even better for me and Kathleen. My mum took us home early! It was an enjoyable day, even though I injured myself the day before and didn’t do as well as I would have liked. I’m looking forward to trying again next year.

**** A GREAT DAY AT THE FAIR *****
The Arts and Craft Fair was held on the 27th of July 2008. It is held annually to help raise money for the school.
There were a variety of craft stalls which exihibited great talent ranging from jewellry, pottery and clothing.
There was an amazing amount of magnificent artwork that was displayed in the hall by local artists and the children of our School.
The rides were exceptional this year. The Dodgem cars and the Sizzler were the most popular rides. These rides were not for the faint hearted.
There were also other rides for younger children which kept them amused.
There was a variety of foods to enjoy ranging from Mexican tacos to the good old Aussie barbeque.
While enjoying their meals, people were watching performances which included singing, dancing and also a martial arts group display.
By the look on everyone’s faces it seemed that the Fair was enjoyed by all!
Well done to the school community for this great event.

~ Colette the Calf Whale being put Down~
Colette was only a calf when she had to be put down. Many people were hoping that Colette had a chance but she didn’t. People had thought she was Colin but after she had been put down we found she was a female. She was a baby calf Humpback whale. Colette’s mother may have left because of a problem that Colette had or she may of died. Colette had a problem with her eyes. Colette was put down on Friday the 22nd of August.
She was in Pittwater. Colette was close to death because she was starving and needed milk from her mum. She needed to be put down or would have died eventually. This was a sad but interesting story for me to listen to and I learnt a few useful things!

4/5M’s Wiki
The Great Wiki that 4/5M set up is full of interesting information on how to do things. It is FANTASTIC!!
It started a couple of weeks ago in class. We decided to make it so we could learn about how to do things like blogging, wormfarming, Audacity and Movie making.
While you are on you can add links and put in pictures.
The Wiki is a great way to get information quickly, learn about technology and share what we learn with our class and other schools. We can do this by writing procedures.
I think it is a great way to communicate.

To finish the day we watched the movie Charlotte’s Web.
It was a great day!

I think this is my favourite news reporting. It’s great to hear about the things that go on in your classroom. I’m sure lots of people would be interested in Country Fair Day.
Brooke I have recently had a look at the Wiki, it is coming along very well. The section on the Canteen is very thorough and clear. I think it will be a great resource for new people to Gymea Bay in the future.
Well done everyone!

~~Movie Maker~~
In term one my class 4/5M had to make a movie on windows movie maker about a capital city of Australia.
Each kid in my class did a different capital city such as Hobart, Adelaide, Sydney, Perth, Melbourne and Darwin. I chose Melbourne because I had just been there for the 2007 karate national titles. Doing Melbourne for my movie also gave me a chance to put in some of my personal experiences and pictures as part of my presentation and information.
This assignment also gave us a chance to learn more about our country and capital cities. I enjoyed working with the program movie maker which I had never heard of before.
This was a really enjoyable assignment and I hope we might be able to do another one on a different topic in term 4.

We are making a new site called AHowto. It is a wiki so anyone with
an account on Wikispaces can edit it. It shows students and teachers how to make and do things. In our class everyone has a topic to write about.
You can also edit the wiki at home or at school. You just need to know your password.

Arts and Crafts Fair.
On the 27th of july 2008 our school had an Arts and Crafts Fair. It had all sorts of things like rides, stalls, shows and more. My brother and I each bought an all day pass which ment we could go on any ride we wanted all day. After a while everyone was settled in and going on all the rides and eating stuff like fairy floss and buying stuff like showbags. My favourite ride was the sizzler that wnet around and around in circles. It think everyone had fun, especially me. I think that next time our school or your school has a fair you should join in.

On Wednesday, year 5 went to the Berry Camp, it took 2 hours to get there.
When we arrived we went on a tour around camp, afterwards we went to the giant swing it was so scary that I almost shaked my legs off!
Then we went to do some archery, hardly anyone even hit the target not even me, then it started raining and I got soaked!
Then soon we went to the disco at night time everyone went bonkers!
The next day we went canoing I’d never gone canoing before and I almost rowed into the reeds!
Everyone enjoyed camp and would love to do it again!

About a week ago a new path had been built through a section of land. It was built so parents could push prams and strollers through the gateway without having to go through all bumps, cracks and obstacles so we called the council and they came and tried to build a path so they did and it had been sucsesful. there had been a new path going through our school. It was going to take a couple of days to dry so they put a fence around it so it could dry. Now we have a new built path through our school and it has been helpful to everyone.
