Happy 40th Birthday
I spotted this article in New Idea, June the 7th 2008.
I selected the article because it was interesting to hear all about a royal persons birthday.
This artical is about Prince Fredricks birthday, how they celebrated it , how many people came which was 100 family and friends and how happy they were.
Yes the information was clear and easy to read because it was quite big and bold also they had some pictures to match the sentence.
The purpose of the report was to let everyone know that Prince Fredrick had his birthday also to let then know what had happened.
I think him his family and friends would find this information valuble because it was his 40th birthday which is special.

*BINDI’S NEW FASHION CRUSADE*
This article appeared in the Womens Weekly in March 2008.
I selected this article because I love to read about Bindi and what she does because she is an amazing girl.
The article is about Bindi and how she wants everyone to buy and wear her shirts and then go and plant a tree or clean a beach.
The information was very clear and easy to read because the writer had set out the story well so it all made sence.
The purpose of the report was to tell people to buy her shirts and then save the world from things like pollution, the report was also to show how passionate about animals and the environment she is and to tell people that they can be too.
I think this report would be important to the people who bought the shirts to tell them that they should help the environment after reading the motto on the shirts, and to tell the people who want to buy them more info and also to show people who want to help the world how to.

10 best day rides in Australia!

6.Northcliffe, WA
7.Otways, Victoria

MIRACLE TWINS
I found this article in the 23rd August edition of New Idea.
I chose to write about this article because it was about twin boys who were totally different sizes when they were born.
This article is about twins that had twin to twin transfusion syndrome whilst in their Mum’s tummy. This causes uneven blood and nutrient flow to each baby. This means that one grew more than the other. One baby was 1.5kg when born and the other 530g.
The article was easy to read and understand because it clearly explained why one boy was bigger than the other and written simply. It also explained the long hard battle the smaller twin had to win to survive.
I think there are many purposes of this report. It tells of one problem than can happen during pregnancy and also shows that very small babies can survive. It also lets the public know just how clever and advanced our specialist doctors are today.
I think some expecting parents, parents with premature babies and families in general would find this topic interesting and beneificial becaus they will see that miracles do happen and babies with very low birth weights can survive and live normal , healthy lives.

Climate Change Effects
This article by Cam Walker is in a magazine called “Wild”, in the Winter 2007 edition. I chose this article because it was interesting and gave some good pictures and information. It talks about the Australian Alps. This article was about how climate changes can effect Australian wildlife and weather. It states any threats that could happen (such as loss of skiable snow, extinction of the mountain Pygmy Possum and loss of alpine habitat).
This article’s information was a bit hard to follow because it used a lot of scientific words (like prognosis, indiginous and scenario). The purpose of the report was to warn people about what climate change can do. It can also show people how dangerous climate change is.
I think that people who would find this article valuable would be people who are interested in climate change, or who live, work or holiday in the Australian Alps, because these are the people who would be most affected by it.

Superbugs
This article by Jerome Groopman was in a magazine that my mum gets called the New Yorker, issue 11 & 18 August 2008.
I chose this article because it was interesting and raised a serious topic.
It was about the increase in infection rates of patients with bacteria that have mutiple resistances to antibiotics. Some of these bacteria live in healthy people but can become deadly when they infect patients who are already very sick, for example, intensive care patients.
The article discussed some of the reasons why these infections are becoming more common and how they are spread between patients.
The information was difficult for me to follow because the author used medical words, but my mum helped me to understand the message.
The purpose of the report was to alert the reader to the danger of these multi-resistant bacteria and to outline some of the things that could be done to combat them.
I think adults would find this information interesting. Although the article would be most interesting to doctors it is also important for the general public to know about this because they can voice their concern about the use of antibiotics in agriculture and standards of hygiene in hospitals.

Sir Elton John returns!
This article is written by Jenny Brown. It is from the “Woman’s Day” from 31st of December 2007.
Sir Elton John is a singer that has been knighted by the Queen of England. He has sold more than 250million albums and won many awards. He has done many great things in his life and also many doubts too, he has had alcohol and drug addiction, bulimia, depression and too much spending. But throughout all of this he now has turned the movie “Billy Elliot” into a major stage musical that opened in Sydney. Many people have witnessed this musical and millions of dollars has come from this. All of the talented children stars of the act were inspired by Elton John and loved to share the spot light with him while they all took a bow. Elton John has admitted that he did cry the first time he saw the movie of Billy Elliot and says that there were a lot of similarities between Billy’s father and his. His father wanted him to be working in the bank or the air force. He believes that Australia will take Billy Elliot in to its heart and he too loved the stage musical altogether.

Loudy’s Shattered Dreams
I found this Article in The 23 August New Idea and thought it would be a good topic to talk about.
Loudy Wiggins, Olympian, Diver, Wife and now Retired because of her terrifying accident. When they were choosing who would be going to the Olympics, Loudy was about to dive and she felt something pop in her leg. She still dived and got eights from all the judges, but they had figured out that she had a 10-cm tear in her calf and could not go to Beijing.
I selected this Article because the Olympics has been a recent topic and thought if anyone would have been wondering what happened to her. This Article wasn’t a very long, confusing article, it was a short, simple, easy to read article.
Loudy was a very good diver and obviuosly some people might of been confused on what had happened to her like the poeple who thought this article was worth reading would be sport and Olympic fans.

Billy Slater – A Week in the Life
This article appeared in Inside Sport in the September issue. I selected this article because I am very interested in football and I think Billy Slater is a very respectable player.
The article was all about what Billy Slater does in a normal week. It went through what he does when he trains and what he does when he is off the field. It looked at his personal life as well.
The information was very clear to me because it was all set out under headings. At the end there was a schedule for a normal week in the life of Billy Slater. There were also a lot of appropriate pictures.
The purpose of the report was to show readers what Bily Slater does in a week. It gives the reader an insight into the life of a footballer and the tight training schedule they have.
I think the people that would find this information valuable are football fans and especially football fans that barrack for the Melbourne Storm. Coaches would also find this interesting because they could help their teams by taking a leaf out of Blly Slaters book.

Bionic arm
This article was in the magazine, Popular Science and Bjorn Carey and Michael Belfiore published an old issue on 36th September 2007.
I selected this article because I am interested in science and it had good information and pictures in it.
This article is about a bionic arm that could be used in 2009. It costs about 55 million dollars for one bionic arm and it is very useful and it acts like a real hand. There are two bionic arms scientists have. Scientists have made a proto 2, which is a thought-controlled mechanical arm complete with a hand with fingers that can perform 30 joint emotions. If you had it, you can also play the piano. The other one is proto 1 and it can bend at the elbow, rotate its wrist and shoulder and can close and open the fingers. They just need to add some adjustments and it will be done. They have already tested it and it can hold a ball and key now.
I understand and I didn’t really understand it because there was a lot of information.
The purpose of this was how good this new invention is like and how it can be used.
People who have only one arm can also have a better life if they have 2 arms.

‘I’m seven and have saved 18,000 lives’
This article appeared in Woman’s’ Weekly in the True Life section (September 2008)
I chose this article because when I saw the heading I wondered how a seven year-old could save 18,000 lives.
The article is about a seven year-old girl called Katherine who saved 18,000 lives. She saved the lives of Africans by using mosquito nets to not let any mosquitos bite anyone during the night and not cause malaria. She is an American girl who watched T.V one night and saw that every 30seconds one African would die from malaria so she decided to sponsor them.
This information was clear and easy to read because the writing was all spread out and was a good size and good font.
The purpose of this report was to say how a little girl had saved thousands of lives and that you can help aswell.
I would find this information valuable because I could help aswell, my teacher would find it valuable because she would know what I like to read about and other people could find it valuable to also help to raise money too.
For more information go to http://www.nothingbutnets.nets watch the video I did and it is fantastic and will help you understand what I have said a bit more.

Top 10 best football moves.
This article appeared from the magazine called Inside Sport and it came out in the September 2008 issue.
I chose this magazine because I like Rugby League and I like to improve on my skills.
It was about the top 10 footy moves in League which were,
Israel’s Folau’s: Speccie
Steve Menzies Front: On Tackle
Paul Gallens: Niggle
Greg Inglis’s: Right Arm Fend
Brett Hodgson’s: Bump
Sonny Bill Williams: Backhand Flick
Karmichael Hunt’s: Shoulder Charge
Todd Carney’s: 40-20
Billy Slater’s: Kick Return
Braith Anasta’s: Bomb
The information was very easy to read because it described each move with clear instructions and was very positive in ways to achieve the 10 different moves.
The purpose of the report was to tell how to do the best 10 moves in football to achieve fantastic results
Anyone who loves to watch or play footy would find this information really helpful. I
think little kids who are just starting will think is very valuable because when everyone is just starting a new sport you always need just the key points to play that game.

Nathan Deakes
This article appeared in the July 2008 issue of Woman’s Weekly. I selected this article because I am very interested in the Olympics.
The article was about the training and preperation Nathan Deakes had to do compete at the Olympics. It also talked his chances of winning a medal in the 50 km walk.
It was a short article which made it clear and easy to read. The purpose of the report was to raise our awareness of him and his sport as many of us haven’t heard of it.
I think that people you are involved with the sport might find this information valuable because more people might like it.

The ship ploughed into the reef
i found this article was in one of my dad’s tracks magazine.I selected this article because i thought might of interest some people.
On Saturday the 12th of July the resident of Padang woke to see a ghost ship that the crew Abandoned stuck on the Break’s lineup. They believe that the cargo was mainly tonnes of shark and tuna.
Yes this article was easy to read and understand because they didn’t have too much hard words and it had a big picture with it.
the purpose of this report is that they are saying that there’s a ghost ship and explain what is really in there.
i think this will be valuble to the Pandang people because it will tell them whats going on.

Michael Phelps
I found this article in the US weekly attached to the New Weekly that my mum reads.I selected this aticle because michael phelps interests me alot.
This article was very easy to read because children can easily read it.
The article was about how Michael Phelps went from a bullied kid to an Olyimpic hero.
The purpose of the report was to tell people about Michael Phelps life.
A michael phelps fan would find this story very inspiring.

Article on Dogs Life
I read the article on Home and Garden Safety for Dogs in the March/April 2003
edition of the magazine “DOGS LIFE”.
I selected this article because I am interested in dogs and are getting one very soon and don’t want it to get poisoned from a plant or garden tool.
The article was about the dangerous hazards and plants in the garden which can be extremely poisonous to dogs.
The text was easy to understand because this is a magazine for adults and children about how to look after your dog in the garden so children must be able to understand it.
The purpose of the report is to warn and teach people not to put things like rat poison, snail bait and lawn food on or in the garden because it can be very dangerous for their dogs.
I think people who are just getting a dog would find this information useful because they don’t want their dog to get sick or hurt.

!!!CUTE CUDDLY AND ENDANGERED!!!
I found this article in the woman’s weekly in June 2007. I selected this story because I am interested in animals.
This story was easy to read because there was pictures to demonstrate it and the writing was really clear.
This story is about endangered animals. It is about zoos trying to get more endangered animals to take care of so they don’t become instinct.
I think this is a good article and it will help zoos get more endangered animals.

Frozen in time!
Thirty year old Douglas Mawson led an expedition to Antarctica in 1911, creating Australian history. Douglas built a hut in Antarctica when he got there and survived only on the food he brought.
Right now the hut has holes in the roof and is filled with snow. The Mawson Hut Foundation preserved the site and its unique historical look. The Australian museum used automatic monitoring to record the humidity over the eight year period.
The Foundation is now removing the ice from the hut’s interior to allow more conservation work. Antarctica may face many future challenges like global warming and sea level rises but Douglas’s hut will stand as a symbol of endurance leadership and cooperation.
The story caught my eye because it was quite an ugly picture of the hut in the corner!
The information was set out in small writing. There was a picture but no large words to attract you to it. The article was quite hard for me to understand because the text was intended for adults.
I think people who knew of Mr Mawson and the hut would find this information valuable because they may be worried that the huts were falling apart. The purpose of the report was that the Mawson Hut Foundation was spending money fixing it up and preserving it.
This article appeared in The Australian Museum Magazine in Spring 2008 issue.

~~Lleytons Olympic Hopes~~
This Article written by Drew Mackenzie appeared in the New Idea magazine on the second of August 2008.
I chose this article because it was either a gossip magazine or a boring financial planning magazine which my dad reads so I chose the gossip magazine.
This article was about Lleyton Hewitt going for Olympic gold with his hip injury and after the Olympics he is going to have a surgery for his hip. If that doesn’t go well he will probably have to stop playing but even if he does he is still a winner because he can look after his family without flying all around the world.
Yes the information was clear and easy to read because the writing was not to big and not to small and there were also some pictures.
The purpose of the article is to keep the public informed about one of our top Australian tennis player is thinking towards the Olympics.
I think that the opposition will find this information valuable because they probably now know that he isn’t at his best and the fans would find this interesting because they want to follow his career.

“I’ve never been happier”
I found an article in New weekly, I selected this article because when I read it I found it interesting and I wanted to share it. The article was about Rachel Hunter a famous actor who used to be as thin as a stick but now she’s gained alot of weight she says “I’m Flesy but fabulous, I’ve never been happier” Her weight doesn’t seem to bother her the slightest, now that she’s got her fiance’ Jarret Stoll who is 12 years younger than her. This information was perfectly clear to me because it is in fairly big writing and I understood it well. The purpose of this article was to share the gossip of Rachel. I think that girls who love to gossip will find this valuable because they’d have more things to gossip about.

Movie Review
The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor
New Weekly
This movie review appeared in the New Weekly on September 15, 2008
I picked this article because my family and I have watched the two other Mummy series and we liked them. I wanted to see what the next movie was about because I want to go and see it at the movies.
The article reviews the movie by explaining the plot, which is the story behind the movie. then it talks about what is good about the movie and what is bad about it.
The article was easy to read because it was well set out in sections and it explained, without giving it away, what the movie was about.
The purpose of the report was to give people an idea of what the movie was going to be about and help them decide whether they want to see it.
This information is valuable to people who love to go to the movies to see new releases. It also gives the movie a rating which people can use to decide if they will go. Movies with a low rating (less than 2 stars) are usually not worth seeing. Sometimes though, I find that I like the movie even if it has been rated less than 2 stars.

~War Between Georgia and Russia over South Ossetia and a Mother cries~
A mother of one Eka Kevanishvili is terrrafied that her daughter Nica looks out of the window and sees the Georgian tanks. At night her little 5 year old daughter Nica can’t sleep because she can hear the Russians bombing in the town of Gori that is only 80km away from Tbilisi [ which is the town of her family].
Eka is not planning to move because there is nowhere for her and her family. She only had Nica because when Nica was born her country was finally a place of peace until this war broke. out She dose not want little Nica to have the same childhood as her. Eka’s childhood was full of war and bombing.
All Eka wants to feel is freedom and her little Nica to not cry.
I found this article in the magazine ”Grazia”. I did find this article a bit sad but I hope Nica can get to sleep soon.

PRINCESS MARY COMES HOME – TO SAVE THE CHILDREN
This article appeared in the September 2008 issue of the Woman’s Day.
This was quite a large article which I found a little confusing in places as the information was scattered and not always logically connected.
The article is about Princess Mary visiting her native home Tasmania on a private visit to introduce her 15 month old daughter Isabella to her Australian relatives. However, another cause close to her heart was at the top of her agenda – The Alannah and Madeline Foundation.
This Foundation was established by Walter Mikac in honour of his two girls who died in the Port Arthur massacre in 1996. Princess Mary is the Royal International Patron for this Foundation.
The focus of this Foundation is for the well being and future of our children, and Mary was here to discuss with the Prime Minister and other supporters, ways of protecting children from bullying and keeping them safe from violence.
This charity has a successful anti-bullying campaign in Australian schools and a ‘Better Buddies” initiative.
Princess Mary has since taken this idea back to Denmark and has launched the country’s first anti-bullying project in day care centres and schools.
Most people would find this article valuable as it is concerning the well-being of our children and it is nice to know that people of importance are the motivators towards theses causes.
I selected this article as I feel that the anti-bullying and buddy systems used in most schools are very important. Children at a young age should be taught to respect, accept and tolerate others. If this is taught, children would be less likely to be bullied. This article suggests that the anti-bullying and buddy systems that most schools are using seem to be helping in this cause as other countries are now beginning to use this system.
The purpose of this article indicated that goodness can come out of a tragic situation. The legacy of these two innocent children whose lives were so suddenly taken from them will live on. This Foundation will help other children’s lives, to give them courage and the ability to live peacefully together.

Article on “THE COMPLETE AUSSIE GUIDE TO DOGS”
I read this article about Why dogs eat “poo”. This interest me and also my family because when we are out my dog eats his own poo that we found out.
This arcticle was about why they eat poo. The author had said that it is a problem to owners. She also explains why and owners think their dogs are being disgusting,naughty,vile- he is just being a dog.
This article was very easy to read and it was really for adults for the intro but I think children can understand too.
This information was for future dog owners and she was giving infomation.
I think people are getting a dog suit this information. They would really want to know why their dog is eating poo.

Australian Tsunami- What is the Risk?
I read an article from Surfing World called “Australian Tsunamis- is the threat real?” . The magazine was out in September 2008. This was about the chances of Australia getting a tsunami.
Researchers and people from the ATWS (Australian Tsunami Warning System) believe that we could get a tsunami because we are surrounded by trenches that cause underwater earthquakes which cause tsunamis. They are also trying to set up a warning system that will warn emergency services and people like that if there is an earthquake.
The purpose of this story was to show everyone the chance of Australia being hit by a tsunami.
This information was clear because it was a good size but there were some technical words that were a bit hard to read because this magazine isn’t for people my age.
I think that scientist and people who work near the water like marine biologists and lifeguards would find this information valuble incase there was a tsunami. I also think Australians would find it valuble because incase it did happen people might not believe it.
I selected this article because I like surfing and reading about surfing. I also found it interesting because people have always doubted that Australia would get a tsunami.

Oil – Free Australia!
I found this article in the September 2008 about car pollution damage. I chose this article because it really interests me because I love nature and i want to take car of earth.
This article was based on what car pollution can do to earth. the author was basically writing about what climatologists and the government are doing to stop climate change. They have decided to stop talk and do.
This was an easy article to read but it was mainly for adults and whoever drives a car but this article still catches my attention even though I don’t own a car.
This article was trying to tell people to try and help by doing something that can reduce car pollution.
I really enjoyed reading this article but there isn’t much i can do but there’s a lot I can do when I get older.
