A ceremony is a celebration of a special event. This may happen in religion, Government or just on important days in the country in which we live. We can experience a marriage, baptism, Opening of the Olypmic Games, perhaps a Knighthood by the Queen, or even the Official welcome to Australia day, a school graduation or a swearing in of a Justice of the Peace (like my Mum’s ceremony).
Ceremonies are very important in religion. They can bring 2 people together in a Marriage with the blessing of their God. It unites a newborn with God during the Baptism and also gives a person’s soul to God in his Death. Different religions conduct their ceremonies in different ways but they all have the same result in the end.

A ceremony is a formal act in which special rituals are followed. I think religions use customs and ceremonies to celebrate special days. They also make the followers feel like they are part of that group because only people in that religion would take part in that ceremony. Some examples are weddings, funerals, and confirmations (for Christians), and Bar Mitzvah and Passover (for Jews).

A ceremony is an activity filled with ritual significance, performed on a special occasion.
Ceremonies are used in religions so they can celebrate something that is important to their religion, like on Easter, Christians celebrate the resurrection of Jesus and on Christmas day they celebrate when Jesus was born.

A ceremony is a special event in the life of a religious community. It often serves to remind worshipers of a particular belief in that religion.
An example of this in the Christian faith is communion. Worshipers are asked to eat bread and drink wine given out by the minister to remind them that Jesus died on the cross in their place. The bread represents Jesus flesh and the wine represents his blood. This was done to wash believers clean of their wrongs. It encourages believers to be grateful to Jesus, to forgive others for wrongs and to live a life worthy of God.

A ceremony is a special time or thing that happens on a speacial occasion that most of the time is a religious event like baptism or lent.
I think people use ceremonys in a religious way because ceremonys like christmas and easter are about Jesus being born and Jesus rising from death and opening the gates of heaven, and most ceremonys and events are religious because people like preists make them happen during the religious times because they want to celebrate about these thing that happened!!! =)
