District Public Speaking Finals

Elyse was one of eight students to compete for the title of best in the district. Competition was fierce, the standard was extremely high and all the students put their heart and soul into their performance. Elyse’s speech ‘To Right Your Wrongs’  was among the best of the best, we are proud of her achievement. Listen to her speech and take some time to think about the messages in it.

Aussie Sayings

Emma did a very entertaining speech as part of the Talking and Listening Program at our school. Listen to this and try to remember some of the true blue Aussie sayings that are mentioned. See if you can find out the origin of one or two of them. Leave a comment with your findings.

You ay choose your article from any magazine eg Wheels, Womans Day, Who, Surfing,  Wrestling, Dirt Bikes, Science Magazine, Readers Digest. There is no need to buy a new magazine it may be an old issue but as long as it is something that interests you.

  • Where and when did this article appear?
  • Why did you select this article?
  • What was the article about?
  • Was the information clear and easy to read? Explain your answer.
  • What was the purpose of the report?
  • Who do you think would find this information valuable? Why?

Keep a copy of your homework this week as you will also present this information to the class in an oral report during week 9.
Be Prepared!

Homework Week 2

Task 1 this week is to comment on at least 3 posts in the speeches blog. The rules are easy you can comment on any three you like if there are no comments recorded, if however someone has commented on that speech you must choose another person who does not have any comments. When all speeches have a couple of comments then you are free to choose which ever one you want to comment on. This is a FAIR way to ensure everyone will have at least two comments to help them on their way with their speeches.

Task 2 Find the meaning of Elasticity, write your definition and some examples on the back of your homework sheet. Don’t forget to have your homework in on Thursday as I am at a Conference on Friday and would like to mark your work on the weekend.

Homework Term 2 Week 1

This week you will need to start writing about a topic that interests you, write why it interests you , what you already know about the topic and things you want to find out about. This will be the starting point for your Speech.  Your information should be typed and saved to your flash drive.

We will then upload them to blog called Speeches where everyone in the class will post their ideas. Over the next two weeks we will be commenting on each others work in class and on the blog, giving feedback or information to the writer.

Information needs to be at school by Friday 2nd May. Please make sure you give your post a title eg Gardening by Darren
