Creating Movies with Movie Maker
Creating movies using Movie Maker is easy. The instructions below are designed to be a quick reference. You can use the Movie Maker website or can be found here at Atomic Learning. Remember when creating content with students it’s important to understand copyright and use creative commons media where possible. This video ‘Wanna work together?‘ explains Creative Commons.
Step 1 - Open Movie Maker
Remember you’l need to go to start/multimedia/movie maker.
Step 2 - Add a title slide
- Go to add ‘Edit Movie’
- Make titles or credits
- Create, edit and format text
- Click done
Step 3 - Add media
Adding photos
- Click on ‘Import pictures’
- Select one or more images
- Click OK to import the images, they will now appear in your collection
- Remember you can also fine images on Flickr.com
Add video
- Click on ‘Import video’
- Select one or more videos to import
- Click OK to import the video, these will now appear in your collection
Add audio
- Click on ‘Import audio’
- Select one or more audio files to import
- Click OK to import the files, these will now appear in your collection
- You can also find creative commons licenced music on Jamendo.
Add narration
- Click on the microphone icon which appear just above the storyboard/timeline
- Click ‘Start narration’ and talk into the microphone
- Save you audio file and it will automatically be added to your timeline
Step 4 - Save and publish your file
Save your file
- Go to ‘Save Project’
- Save your file
- Saving your project means that you can edit your project and republish at a later date
Publish your movie
- Go to ‘Finish Movie’
- Save your file as a wmv file.
- Publishing your movie means it will play in Windows Media Player and can be uploaded to the web
Optional - Upload your movie to the web
Create a web-based video account
- I use Blip.tv as it is not blocked at the school
Upload your video
- Go to upload tab
- Give your movie a title
- Select your file
- Remember paying for a pro account enables you to make movies private. This means that they are visible only where you embed the video into a webpage.
