Escape from the Matrix!

My name is Neo. I am a puppy. My owners have named me after a character from the movie ‘The Matrix’. Little do they know I am planning my own escape! Life here can seem pretty good I am generously fed, I have somewhere warm and dry to sleep and I even have a playmate, my sister Lara. Somehow I feel I’m missing out on something. There is a big interesting world out there with lots of adventure and new smells that I have only had a small taste of. Besides, Lara bosses me around a lot!

My escape needs to be carefully planned. My owners keep me well enclosed but I have noticed a weakness in the fence at the bottom of the garden. I wait until they have gone off to work and I make my way down to the weak part in the fence. I start to dig. Lara barks at me to stop but the ground is soft and I’m making good progress. After a while the hole is big enough for me to squeeze through. I’m free! I go through the fence not realising that there is a taipan in my next-door neighbours yard. It is hissing and getting up and dropping at me and trying to bite me. I quickly move to the next yard. There is a big dog. This is not so easy because it could jump the fence if I try to get under and it could chase me. I decide to go down the side of the house because the big dog can’t go down there.

I get onto the footpath and OH NO the pound have just seen me move. Doom. The pound catch me, look at my collar and say something. Then they put me in their van. A few minutes later I am back at my house.

My owners were happy to have me back but I’m not happy. My owners have fixed the fence so I will have to find another way out. I hope I don’t meet another taipan. I had never felt better than when I escaped. I felt really alive.

The Storm by Alexis

The thunder rattled the house like a giant using my home as a maraca. We were so worried as the storm went on.  Although we were scared we knew it was just the clouds clapping and making a tune. We were scared no longer as we faced our fear and danced to the beat of the musical sky. All of our family were grateful for our plants to get some water, but the darkness of the night sucked-up our happiness. There we were sitting in front of the window watching the heavens above pouring buckets of water on the roof.

My heart beat faster as the shadow of the trees looked like a monstrous creature lurking in the garden. The lightening flashed on and off as it stretched along the night sky. It was the only light as all the power in the street had turned off.

I raced off to bed as my fear scattered along my body. I got to sleep and the next morning I was more grateful than last night.
